Baptism means to be immersed in water and symbolizes Jesus’ death and resurrection. This public act displays one’s decision to follow Jesus to the church and unbelievers in attendance. (Mark 1:9; Acts 22:16)
Baptism is simply a physical expression of a internal decision to follow Jesus. If someone has decided to follow Jesus with their life they should take this step out of obedience to Jesus example. Baptism is not salvation and this step should only be taken by those who understand its meaning. If a child has accepted Jesus as their savior, we encourage them to take their next step of baptism.
Any one who has decided to follow Jesus should be obedient in baptism. Jesus was baptized and commanded his followers to do the same. (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:41)
If you have been baptized by immersion after making the decision to follow Jesus then you do not need to be baptized again. However, if you were baptized or sprinkled prior to accepting Jesus, your next step is baptism.
